Skin Allergies, Natural Treatment of Skin Allergies

Everyone suffers from skin allergies at some point in their lives, while some suffer from them every single day. Determining the cause of skin allergies can be difficult when there are so many possible substances that can have effect.

If you’ve ever had an allergic reaction to food that involved breaking out in hives, you know how frightening the experience can be, especially if you’re in public. If this ever happens to you, you’ll want to know exactly what’s going on, and that it can be difficult to determine in the case of allergies of the skin.

However, there are many kinds of allergies of the skin, some more severe than others, and many occurring as the result of a very common product or material.

Metals

Skin Allergies, Skin Allergies Treatment The most common allergies and skin rashes that affect most people are brought about by exposure to certain metals. Zinc is perhaps the most likely irritant, being used in just about every common metal including zippers and buttons on clothing and costume jewellery.

Even surgical steel that is of poor grade can cause irritation in some sensitive skin. Only 14K gold or higher and high grade, pure metals such as steel or titanium can be used on the surface and in piercing on most skins.

Botanicals

There are several allergies of the skin that can be attributed to contact with certain botanicals. Poison ivy is a very common irritant, and poison oak can even kill if the exposure is too great.

Peru balsam is a common perfume ingredient that causes allergies in many people. Generally, shiny leafed plants that animals avoid are liable to cause a reaction and should be avoided.

Fragrances

Just like botanical fragrances, the man-made chemicals that are most commonly used as fragrances in a multitude of products are very likely to cause reactions in people with skin allergies. They are often found on bottles and even some foodstuffs as “fragrances.” As these chemicals are trade secrets, they do not have to appear individually on ingredient lists.

These chemicals are notoriously difficult to remove from modern environments. You may be able to find “natural” alternatives that use less irritating essential oils instead of the irritating chemical fragrances.

Removing the irritant almost always causes the rash or swelling to subside, though some allergies can persist for days. Be patient and take a scientific approach to determining the allergen, and you should be able to avoid further trouble.
