Yeast Infections in Men
Yeast infections in men have a variety of ways of presenting themselves. Men may have penile yeast infection even with no symptoms of Candida Albicans overgrowth. Uncircumcised men have a slightly higher chance to contract a yeast infection on the head (glans) of the penis than circumcised men.
When you have a yeast infection, you may transmit the desease to your partner, who may get much more trouble with the yeast infection than you do. What you have is then called a yeast balanitis, that is, a candida infection on the glans and preputial skin.
How Yeast Infections in Men Transmitted?
When skin rubs against skin, mucus membrane against mucus membrane, like it does for example during sexual intercourse, yeast infections may be transmitted.
All people have candida on their skin, but it usually causes no harm in otherwise healthy individuals. If your immune system or your general state of health is compromised one way or the other, the yeast may start an overgrowth and begin an infection from only slight rubbing or damage to the skin.
It really doesn't take much rubbing. Skin against skin is enough. A state called intertrigo is commonly seen in the elderly, especially women. The most usual place is under the breasts, where the breasts and the thoracic skin below come in contact and create a damp milieu, that is conducive to the overgrowth of Candida albicans.
It happens that yeast infections in men develop this way too, even without transmission through sexual intercourse. If this is the case, then try to find the reason, as it is usually a symptom of reduced immune functions and reduced health. Heavy stress and overwork may be a contributing factor. Diabetes may be another cause, but there are many possible explanations.
The Symptoms of Yeast Infections in Men
A slightly whitish or yellowish discharge may occur, and you may feel a slight soreness after intercourse. The tip of the penis may be inflamed in a patchy pattern with scant white areas. The infamed area may be red tender, itching, but usually not very painful.
If your immune system is weakened, you may get sorenes and patches of red, inflamed areas on your glans, and also areas with a white, cheesy layer covering some or all of the inflamed areas, partly or totally.
In severe cases, the penis may be red, itching, swollen, and covered with white patches. This is rare.
So you may have anything from sero symtoms to severe inflammation and infection, depending on the state of your immune system, your diet, your level of stress and how massive the damage to the mucus membrane and the skin was when you contracted the infection.
